Cadbury Volunteer Awards winners announced

The 2019 Cadbury Volunteer Awards winners were celebrated recently as part of the NZ Netball Awards in Auckland.

Cadbury is Netball New Zealand’s official Volunteer Partner, helping to recognise, reward, inspire and recruit Netball volunteers.

The awards shone a light on Netball volunteer champions who have helped build and nurture Netball communities and participants throughout the year.

Cadbury Volunteer Coach of the Year
Maylene Meroiti (Rotorua/WaiBoP)

Maylene hails from Rotorua in the heart of the Waikato Bay of Plenty where she follows a coaching philosophy based on Nga-papa-wha-tanga. She tirelessly coaches multiple teams and leads several programmes across Year 7 to 13 athletes while also focussing on achieving her own qualifications.

Cadbury Volunteer Official of the Year
Sonia Kupuri (Wellington/Central)

Sonia is from the Kapi Mana and Wellington Netball Centres. She is a manager of many talents and energy – taking on four teams from college level through to Under 17 rep sides and beyond – with superb organisation and communication skills. Sonia demonstrates generosity and radiates positivity no matter what.

Cadbury Volunteer Administrator of the Year
Jenny Hickson (Christchurch/Mainland)

Jenny represents Cashmere Netball Club in Christchurch. Her talents include completing successful funding applications and updating all the policies and procedures while keeping a close eye on the expenditure. Jenny’s skills have enabled the Cashmere Club to upgrade resources and ensure teams are well prepared and supported for their competitions.

Cadbury Youth Volunteer of the Year
Jessica Gill (Dunedin/South)

Jessica comes from the deep south at Dunedin Netball Centre - where from a young age her dedication and passion for Netball has been well known and appreciated. Jessica coaches, runs programmes and umpires while playing and attending courses.

Cadbury Community Volunteer Champion of the Year
Parengaio Huhu (Taranaki/Central)

Parengaio represents Taranaki Netball Centre where she is a highly respected and dedicated member of the community. Parengaio has been working with kura kaupapa for over 15 years, solving issues to ensure that the students are able to play. As well as this she is a bench official, coach and umpire while passionately advocating for the inclusion of Te Reo in Netball – encouraging bilingual officiating and providing translations for wider use.
