Leigh Gibbs awarded Life Membership of Netball New Zealand

Former Silver Ferns captain and coach Leigh Gibbs has been made a Life Member of Netball New Zealand.

Bestowed the honour at the 90th Netball New Zealand Council Meeting in Queenstown on Saturday, Gibbs becomes the 32nd Life Member.

She joins a who’s who of Netball in New Zealand to receive the award including; Sheryl Lady Wells, Taini Jamison, Kereyn Smith, Dame Lois Muir, Dawn Jones, and Monica Leggat.

Gibbs was the 64th player to wear the Black Dress, the 11th captain and the sixth coach.

She represented the Silver Ferns in three Netball World Cups as a player (1979, 1983 and 1987) and coached them in 32 Test Matches between 1994-1997, including at Netball World Cup 1995, and was assistant coach in 2003 when the Silver Ferns last won the title.

Also acknowledged were 19 Service Awards presented to individuals who have made a significant contribution to Netball.
